Dear friends, and family,
We are saddened to say that we have decided to suspend our tour operations for the summer of 2020 due to the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. We know you are disappointed, so are we. We held off on making this decision as long as we could. Now that the State of Maine guidelines begin to emerge, it has become clear that we cannot sustain our business financially with severe limitations on the number of passengers allowed onboard our vessel. It is our priority to keep everyone safe and we felt that under the current guidelines for physical distancing it would be impossible to run our shuttle van, and the Pamela B safely. We wouldn’t dream of operating in a way that we didn’t believe would be safe for you, our staff and for our surrounding community.
So, what’s next? We are already beginning to think about summer 2021. We will work closely with the Friends of Peary’s Eagle Island, the local oyster farmers and the lobstering community to enhance our programs for 2021. We also may try to develop a few virtual tours visiting our oyster farmers and pull a few traps to keep you engaged in our work. We all know that no video experience can ever take the place of being there in person, but we hope this will encourage you to visit us in the future.
We’ve shed more than a few tears, but we are also confident that it is the right decision for our business and community. We are grateful for your understanding, patience, and support, and look forward to being with you in 2021.
